Pipes Up for March in the Back Bay
The month of March may be a busy season of parades and gigs leading up to St. Patrick’s Day for the active bagpiper and pipe band here in the US. This March though, the competitive circuit is just getting started. When the events throughout February have got you in the mood and all the hubbub of St. Patrick’s Day is behind you, March 26 brings the Back Bay Solo Contest in Andover, Massachusetts. The fledgling contest returns for its second year and is shaping up to be great way to flex your competitive muscle in the early part of the season.
The contest is offering all grades of solo piping in EUSPBA sanctioned events. Organizer John Daggett is gathering resources for a great event, “This is a great opportunity for other pipers and the community to hear great music and talented players competing here in the Northeast region. Generally speaking, we would love a huge turnout for all grades at this great indoor setting. We are sincerely grateful to Henderson Imports and Gibson Bagpipes for each donating a blackwood chanter. In addition, over 15 other donating vendors and organizations have supplied the items we will award the top winners in each grade. We are still seeking donations of material and fiscal value, so if anyone is out there and interested in donating please let us know!”
More information on the contest is up at their website or email backbaysolos@gmail.com with any questions.
Intrepid folks who are sticking around the Massachusetts region that night can catch the Stuart Highlanders in concert at the Performing Arts Center in Chelmsford. More information is up on the Stuart Highlanders’s website.
