Wisehart Overall Champion at Back Bay Solo Contest
Thanks to Adam Holdaway of the Stuart Highlanders Pipe Band for sending along these results from the first ever Back Bay Solo Contest:
______________
This was a great contest to judge- Kudos to John Daggett for running this first annual event. With an attentive and experianced (seemingly) volunteer staff, which were great to deal with; this event began on time and stayed that way throughout the day.
Grade 1 Light music review- This was a contest where, for the most part, each competitor played (technically) about the same. Not much talk was attributed to gracenoting errors, or wrong notes in general. Main critique came down to musicality and bagpipe sound. Wisehart, the overall grade 1 winner had not only good technique (as did the other players) but the best feel for the music and a superior bagpipe, whose drones filled the room ( a circular confrence room with high ceilings and a panoramic view of downtown Boston- Very nice room to listen in! ) with an awesome presence. This was the closest contest of the day. If the grade 1 solo scene continues on like this, we’re in for quite a battle royal this year!
