Glenfiddich Bagpipe Championships to be Streamed Live!
O my gosh. It’s like Christmas, but better! I can think of no better way to ‘ush in the Celtic holiday of Samhain than to watch arguably the highest level solo Highland bagpiping there is. The National Piping Centre will be live streaming the Glenfiddich Championships from Blair Atholl Castle on Oct. 27.
Apart from the World Pipe Band Championships, this has to be the only time there has been a live webcast of a high level piping event. There are few events that can claim the stature and prestige of the Glenfiddich. Much like Hollywood’s Academy Awards, “it’s an honor just to be nominated.” The best solo performers in the world are invited to attend to play a piobaireachd and MSR. The event will run from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm local time, so we Americans here on the east coast need to be up bright and early (5:00 am) for the first blaw. Contestants for 2012 include Callum Beaumont, Murray Henderson, Finlay Johnston, Jack Lee, Surrey, Stuart Liddell, Euan MacCrimmon, Willie McCallum, Roddy MacLeod, Iain Speirs, and Gordon Walker.
